The Tuamotus
The Tuamotus, “Tahiti's Strand of Pearls” and
the largest of the Polynesian archipelagos, are located northeast
of Tahiti and include 76 islands and atolls spread out over
more than 7,500 square miles.Four of these islands –
Rangiroa, Manihi, Tikehau, Fakarava – offer many exciting
activities, including world-class scuba diving, horseback
riding, shark feeding and deep-sea fishing.
Tikehau: An oval island with
pink and white sand beaches, as if from a postcard.
Manihi: The black pearl paradise
offers secluded white sand beaches, and is home to Tahiti’s
first black pearl farm.
Fakarava: A protected nature
reserve, this abundant ecosystem is home to rare birds, plants
and rich dive sites that are virtually unexplored.
Marquesas
Known as “the mysterious islands” and virtually
untouched by man, the Marquesas Islands’ isolation from
other lands has created a fascinating culture. The language
spoken here is Marquesan (pronounced Mark-asian) and the backdrop
is magnificent 1,000 foot waterfalls, sheer volcanic cliffs
and ancient religious sites. Nuku Hiva is the largest island
in the Marquesas.
